New Single Cubicle Haemodialysis Room in CHI at Temple Street
I am delighted to share with you an update on an exciting project funded by Children’s Health Foundation. The team at CHI at Temple Street have recently completed the conversion of a vacated office in St Michaels C Ward into a brand-new Single Cubicle Haemodialysis Room.
As always, the team in CHI at Temple Street are excellent at making the most out of the limited space that is available to them to ensure patients have the best care possible. The conversion of this existing space into one that will benefit many of the hospital’s renal patients and is a project that the foundation is proud to support.
Haemodialysis helps young patients who have issues with their kidney function – often those awaiting a transplant – by filtering and cleaning the blood. The unit, which is now live, allows patients to undergo treatment in a private, children-friendly space. Patients are now being scheduled for admission and it is set to make a huge difference. When we asked Mairead Kinlough, Nephrology Clinical Nurse Manager in CHI at Temple Street what impact this new facility will have she said:
“The construction of a second haemodialysis single cubicle in our haemodialysis unit was completed in December and commissioned for use in early February. This cubicle provides another much-needed station to dialyse patients requiring isolation due to clinical need which enhances our infection control within the unit. This child friendly, spacious, brightly decorated cubicle is fully equipped to provide haemodialysis and plasma exchange. It has been paid for entirely through fundraising, thanks to generous contributions made by Children’s Health Foundation supporters. The renal team are extremely grateful to all the donors that made this possible.”
The €80,000 needed for this project was funded through our 100Minds campaign, which connects 3rd level students with mentors from across different sectors of business and encourages them to run fundraising projects that will help develop their skill set and apply their theoretical learning’s from college in a practical manner. The students that have been involved are so passionate about making a difference and we’re so thankful to them and all those who supported this project by donating to their fundraisers.
