Your support could help a child like Sophie
My little Sophie spent her first eighteen months in the hospital, facing life-threatening medical issues. She’s two and a half now, doing much better, and this will be her first Christmas at home — her dad Alan and I are so excited, and of course Sophie can’t wait!
Sophie is our first child — our absolute treasure. When she was born, our excitement at being new parents turned quickly into shock and concern, as doctors discovered our baby girl had some severe health problems. Her breathing, her heart and her ability to feed were all affected. All of this came as a huge shock to me and Alan, but Children’s Health Ireland was there for us in this dark time.
When we first arrived in Children’s Health Ireland at Crumlin, the doctors said that Sophie might be in hospital for three to six months, which at the time felt like an eternity
If you had told us we would be spending a year and a half in the Transitional Care Unit (TCU), I honestly don’t know if I could have believed you. But that’s exactly what happened.
During Sophie’s long period of treatment — which saw us spending not one but two Christmases in hospital — she underwent several major operations, including open heart surgery. This was all incredibly worrying, of course, but the staff were all so wonderful, looking after not just our daughter but our whole family. We really felt as though our daughter was in the very best hands.
Children’s Health Foundation makes so much incredible work possible. For families like ours, your support means the world.Â
Thank you,
Melissa Dalton, Sophie’s Mum
