Redevelopment - Bringing new life to St. Philomena's Ward, CHI at Temple Street
With your incredible help, we have been able to fund a transformational refurbishment of St. Philomena’s Ward in CHI at Temple Street. One of the main aims of the refurbishment was to provide better comfort and privacy for patients and their families, and the best facilities for CHI staff. A designated parent’s room was also developed in this project.
Overnight chairs now feature in each room, ensuring parents who wish to stay with their sick children overnight can do so in comfort.
This refurbishment of St. Philomena’s ward has meant that there are better facilities available for the treatment of vulnerable patients who require isolation. Eight isolation rooms were developed and fully equipped. These isolation rooms are tailor made to the needs of our most vulnerable patients, including controlled air conditioning for enhanced infection control.
All bedrooms now have en-suite bathrooms, providing greater privacy for patients. Treatment room facilities were also upgraded and redesigned to create a better environment and ease of access for all.
Previously only served by stairs, the ward has never been fully accessible as children would have to walk or be carried on to the ward. A new link corridor was created to allow for lift access, with the inclusion of a new lift platform. The floor was also levelled across the entire ward, allowing wheels of trolleys, wheelchairs etc. to move easily across it. This has meant greater access for all, regardless of mobility.
This redevelopment and reconfiguration project has not only improved access, but also created additional bed capacity within the hospital so more sick children can be cared for.
This is the power of your support - thank you for helping bring comfort, privacy and state-of-the-art facilities to the little patients who need it most.
